Following on from our previous update about Unique IQ Founder David Lynes heading to the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Australia, we are thrilled to share that David successfully completed the event, representing Team GB on the world stage.
Despite facing a few unexpected technical challenges, David put in an incredible effort, crossing the line with a finishing time of 00:36:56, placing 152nd out of 352 riders overall, 145th out of 247 male competitors, and 23rd in his 45-49 age group.
A Race against the Clock
On 16th October 2025 the 23km Time Trial started and finished in Lorne, which features some of the most spectacular sections of Victoria’s most visited tourist attraction, the Great Ocean Road.
The out-and-back course turns at the iconic Memorial Arch at Eastern View and is complete with a mix of challenging climbs, rolling hills and scenic coastal views making it a challenging yet rewarding course.
A True Test of Determination
The week David arrived in Australia it was discovered that his bike’s handlebar setup was 10mm too deep, a detail hidden within the 78-page event regulations. Therefore the handlebars on his bike were adapted to meet the regulations, which unfortunately compromised his riding position and made the race even more challenging.
To make matters worse, his handlebars came loose just one minute into the race, making it an even tougher challenge. But true to form, David pushed through with grit and determination, giving the race everything he had.
Racing for Team GB
Despite the hurdles, David described the event as “a fantastic experience” and shared his reflections upon returning home:
“So proud to put the GB kit on and race for my country. A fantastic experience, epic scenery, phenomenal level of competitors from all over the world, friends made for life..”
