Unique IQ is excited to have welcomed three new members to the team in the last few weeks.
Claire Orchard has joined the much-loved Keeley on our Service Desk and is already off to a flying start, supporting customers with their software queries and quickly troubleshooting any issues.
Rita Leitao is spearheading a new quality department and has been hard at work trying to break our software so that it reaches you in the best possible version of itself.
Meanwhile in engineering, Zbigniew Pyszczuk has become the latest addition to our development team as a back-end engineer.
They are a dedicated bunch who are enjoying adding their own expertise to Unique IQ’s drive and purpose. Let’s find out a little bit about them!
Claire Orchard – Service Desk Analyst
Tell us about your role at Unique IQ
To provide first class support to customers over the phone and email and to raise any issues with the team as required. I hope my years of support work will stand me in good stead to fulfil the role and build relationships with our users.
What have your first few weeks been like?
Amazing, I love the people here and the welcome and training has been wonderful. It is so nice to work with people who care about what they do so much. The system is very user friendly and that makes picking it up so much easier. The people I am speaking to are also lovely and it’s great to be in such a caring environment.
What did you do before coming to Unique IQ?
I was still doing support before this, but the sector was the food industry and we worked with over 140 applications that could all be bespoke as well as assisting with general IT issues customers were facing. Moving back into the care sector though has been really refreshing, I take a lot of pride in what I do and find empathising with customers comes as second nature. Working with others who have the same values really makes all the difference.
And what do like to do in your spare time?
Creating! I love making and doing from models to all kinds of crafty things as well as wood working, DIY and stealing any tools left lying around the house by the other half. He says the toolbox is not left lying around but I disagree. My life is full; with a house partner and 5 kids I am never at a loose end which is just how I like it. If I get time I bake and love roaming the countryside and on the odd occasion I can be found with a pencil and paper in a corner drawing dragons.
Rita Leitao – QA Lead
What is your role at Unique IQ?
QA Lead, so my main focus is looking into the Quality Assurance processes and improving them as well as ensuring the quality of our legacy systems and our brand-new products. I’m really enjoying the fact that we are implementing a new QA process, so everything needs starting from scratch.
How have your first few weeks been?
The first weeks here have been really interesting. Care is a new business area for me (I was QA lead for an online casino games studio before) so it’s an extremely interesting new sector to learn about. I’m also trying to learn our legacy systems and have been working closely with our development team to ensure that QAs and Developers are all on the same page and have a good relationship.
About the people, everyone has been nice and friendly so far and for me that is important. Having a good environment in the company makes the difference.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In my spare time I enjoy cooking and spending time with my family and friends. I really like to travel but unfortunately in the last year that wasn’t possible. I’m also finishing my masters degree, I’m currently doing my dissertation, which hopefully will be finished this year.
If you could tell our customers one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Let’s make it two… I like Guns N’ Roses. And I also won the Overall Award and Tester Award at the DevelopHER Awards 2019.
Zbigniew Pyszczuk – Software Developer
What are you enjoying most about the role so far?
It’s really nice being a back-end only developer. In the past I’ve worked as a full stack developer, and while that keeps things a bit more fresh, it is really nice to know exactly what to expect from my workload. I’ve been working consistently on building web APIs for the next generation of our software.
What have your first few weeks been like?
As with any new job, I think it can be very scary to start with, however I have to say starting here at Unique IQ has been one of the most welcoming I’ve had. Everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful, and I feel I’ve caught up to speed with a lot of the processes and workflows we use here. It’s really awesome to feel so welcomed too. In the past I’ve been in companies that are all business and I find that this attitude can be really unhealthy. Here I actually feel happy coming in to work (well, I do work remotely, so it’s not really coming in but you know what I mean) and I’ve never really had a day where I feel unmotivated or disinterested in what I do.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I think I play way too many video games! The past year in lockdown has definitely not helped matters! Aside from video games I love playing tabletop games with my friends, which we used to do on a weekly basis. I also love exploring the UK. Me and some friends would often go for long drives around the British countryside looking for interesting areas. There is a lot of beauty in the UK, going through the Peak District or the Scottish Highlands have been awesome experiences. It’s crazy the kind of beauty you can find locally.
